Scott’s September Doom Charts Submission

For a bunch of reasons, this is the best I can do for my September Doom Charts list. Thankfully, Stephanie hit it out of the park with her list, which you can see here.

On my part, September quickly got out of control. One of the most difficult things to really plan for is success, in my Counseling/Supervision practice is starting do shows signs of it. As in, I’m close to making a living wage, lol. On top of that, September had an ungodly amount of fantastic material. This is one of the few times where I listened to music more than I was able to write about.

Since this is my favorite post to make every month, I didn’t want to skip entirely. So, without any editing at all, this is what I submitted to the Doom Charts for the month. There are no numbers, but the number one pick is the first one.

As always, this process gets really difficult at times. I honestly believe every single one of these releases is going to be on somebody’s top-five for the month, with quite a few on their “best of the year” lists. But, this is the life I chose…

Stoner/Doom

Bristol, Tennessee, USA

Self Released

When anyone asks me, “what is Stoner/Doom?”, this is my new answer.  Elements of both styles combine to give a classic yet fresh take on some of the darkest, dankest riffs so far this year.  Two things make this stick out for me: the real, unprocessed vocals and subterranean fuzzed-out bass holding the whole thing together. They don’t just  rely on the killer guitar work to make their point: these guys came to play and put Tennessee on the map! Along with all the other killer bands from Tennessee, that is…
