When Red Mesa planned Partial Distortions, they couldn’t have known that Castle Rat, High on Fire and Elk Witch would be dropping the same month. April is insane, and pretty much looks like an Album of the Year list.
But when you’re Red Mesa, I guess you don’t give a shit.
Red Mesa’s Partial distortions
Red Mesa’s album ‘Partial Distortions’ is a throwback to the early days of Desert Dock. It captures the essence of the desert sound and combines it with a progressive sludge style unlike anything released in at least 20 years.
To say that this is a masterpiece would miss the point: again, Red Mesa doesn’t care about that stuff. This is about where they live, what they see, and what they imagine living in the Desert. Born in a cave is not too big a stretch when one feels what Red Messa is evoking on this album. There’s an authenticity to it that no amount of riffage or fuzz can reproduce. This is the desert.
All I can guarantee is this: if you give Red Mesa’s Partial Distortions a serious listen when it comes out on April 19th, you’re in for one hell of a ride.
