LungBurner’s Embers
Ok, how the hell did this one get past most of us? Rob Hammer shared LungBurner’s Embers on his sites sometime in early February, and I (thankfully) saw his post, clicked on it, and was blown away by what would become an album in constant play on all of my devices!
Released on January 26th, Atlanta/Athens Georgia’s LungBurner has seemingly come from out of nowhere and dropped one of the most beautifully brutal releases I’ve ever heard.
Yes. It’s THAT good.

I HATE what I’m about to say because I try to veer away from the whole, ‘for fans of…’ and ‘sounds like…’ but, if you dig Conan and YOB, LungBurner is your Huckleberry.
Overview:
The production is magnificent. The performance is top notch. I dig the super-low tuning and think the samples are tastefully employed throughout the album. Releasing four songs sounds more EP than LP, but Embers clocks in at around 40 minutes and that, my tribe, is very appropriate LP time!
A little social media detective work had me locating and eventually chatting with guitarist/vocalist, Jens Anderberg. Jens is an Atlanta transplant from Chicago, so I thought that a couple of Scandinavian-American doom guitarists from Chicago having a chat about band and album stuff for cleanandsoberstoner.com was pretty rad.
In addition to Jens (guitar/vocals/samples), the trio is rounded out by bassist Matt Rayborn and percussionist, Dylan Mincey. When asked how LungBurner started, Anderberg replied:
“Matt and I started LungBurner in early 2023 and just wanted to write some music that we wanted to hear… at full volume. We clicked right off the bat, wrote a couple of riffs, and then found Dylan. Within about two months we had the EP finished with a couple more ideas in the bag for later. We hit up some friends, lined up a show, went into the studio, and here we are! It’s been a hell of a ride, and we couldn’t be more shocked at the reception Embers has had with everyone.”
So, if we read that correctly folks, LungBurner is barely a year old and has released an epic debut!
I inquired if they intend to release Embers on vinyl, and Jens hinted that they are already working on a full-length release with the possibility of pressing Embers at a later date. If these guys are already planning a “full-length” release, I can’t imagine it being any shorter than Dopesmoker!!!
For those familiar with my previous articles, I don’t do song by song breakdowns. Every song on Embers is spectacular. No fillers, no garbage…just straight up heavy, HEAVY songs. I can’t implore you enough to pop over to LungBurner’s Bandcamp and buy the digital download NOW! I did, and so should you!
