Single Premiere: IROH Release CCR cover ‘Sinister Purpose’ Video

If you’re not familiar with IROH, you should be. The band draws comparisons to some fuzzy, Alt-Metal meets Stoner Rock staples like Queens of the Stone Age, Torche and Crobot. Last year, the band released the post-apocalyptic concept album THEY RIDE, which peaked at number 38 on the April 2023 Doom Charts, filled with blistering tracks and the perfect soundtrack to the end of the world.

This spring, Monster Riff helped premier a new IROH single, “Crash + Burn“, a catchy, high-energy, riff-filled track. So we couldn’t be more excited to hear IROH is back and this time with a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival track, “Sinister Purpose” and with a killer music video to match.

IROH guitarist, Billy Steele on covering the CCR song:

“CCR is the first rock n roll band I remember hearing as a kid. They were the first band that made me want to play an instrument. Fast forward to watching the movie Green Room, and they have their desert island band discussions. When “Sinister Purpose” kicks in at the end of the movie it made me realize that they are in fact my desert island band as well. It also reminded me how bad ass of a song it is. I knew that we could bring a heavy element to it that would give some new life to an already amazing track.”

Monster Riff is proud to co-premiere “Sinister Purpose” with Slightly Fuzzed! Check it out:

Singer and guitarist Brandon Welch on making the video:

“We borrowed heavily from CCR’s “I put a spell on you” music video. We wanted to capture the vibe of that video and use elements of that video but really push the things we see as comedic from our perspective here in 2024.

We shot it in Ryan’s (our bassist) garage and spent the entire day cutting up and having a good time. It isn’t a shot for shot recreation of that video but it’s damn close. Kristin Welch did a killer job shooting and editing the video. She also took great photos of us in our badass classic rock threads. “

IROH clearly has an immense talent to take a song like “Sinister Purpose” and make it their own, but the eye for details and the humor in the video is what I truly love. Check out the CCR video for “I Put a Spell on You” to get an idea of what I’m talking about.
