Roe Vs. Wade: brief thoughts

My newbie-doomer, who has a pretty cool job, told me one of her employees needed to take the afternoon off and cry. I said, “That won’t help. Now’s not the time to hide in a safe room.”

Newbies reaction, real and deep, told me that it’s time for me to STFU. Just for now. See, I’m that white, boomer, male demographic that they’ve struggled against. I female and a minority just stripped millions and millions of people from a right based on the 14th Amendment. The one that states, and I quote, “No state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

You know, what Roe and most of the gay rights, marriage equality, personal freedom stuff is based on. 6 Supremes thought otherwise.

Me, I have little blood in the game. All I know is millions of people are afraid, to their souls, about what comes next: Separation of Church and State? Freedom to be Buddhist, Muslim or Wiccan? Catholic or Protestant (that flares up from time to time.)

I don’t know. All I know is rights are being eroded, liberty is being limited, and a whole bunch of people probably feel like The Handmaids is coming true, barely a work of fiction.

And if their freedoms aren’t real, then neither are mine. Nor are yours, regardless of where you land on the issues.

Anyway, I just wanted to get something posted. We’re free to carry loaded weapons in a culture reeling from children, CHILDREN!, being shot while good ol’Texas stood by and watched.

But I don’t have a right to my anger today. I leave that to my sisters and Pride family, the minorities at very real and palpable risk of a Talibanesque political movement from the party of personal responsibility and freedom.

But tomorrow: that’s another thing entirely.
