Clean and Sober Stoner
So, I had all sorts of plans leading to January 1st. I never would have imagined that 2024 would already be the third most successful year in the history of this site. Seriously, it’s January 16th, and it’s already got more views than the first six years…combined.
Being part of the Doom Charts is clearly a factor here. Their promotion of our Top 100 Albums of 2023 was absolutely gonzo. I still can’t believe I get to work with those people!
We’re also severely indebted to Pat at Monster Riff and his “real” job at Poetica Marketing. I’d be in the deep weeds without their help, and I’m especially proud of the work we’ve done (and are doing) together on YouTube. https://youtu.be/GiQSXlHoFWw
Well, I had a lot of plans for C&SS. I really want to do a series on the perfect headphones for Stoner/Doom/Heavy Psych. I’d love to do some Classic Album Reviews, Book Reviews and all sorts of stuff revolving around a Clean and Sober Stoner lifestyle.
But those plans are going to have to be put on hold for a while. In fact, I’m going to have to change a few things in order to keep things afloat…
…because I’m now the latest member of the Bass Gear Magazine Team!!!
Yep, I’m going legit! I’ll be writing, reviewing (music), and working on the Bass Gear Mag YouTube Channel. I get to work with bass legends such as Sean Fairchild, AKA “The Combinator,” bassist/journalist Freddy Villano, and UK Bass Master Dan Veall.
But let me get this out of the way: I’m not in the same league as these guys as a bass player. I mean, I’m a solid bar/wedding band player and could probably whip out some killer Stoner/Doom. But this crew is beyond next-level!
It’s a badly kept secret that I’m a bass player. I swear, every time I start a review or even begin to listen to a song, I immediately go to the bass. I’ve lost count of how many paragraphs I’ve written over the past few years, only to delete them. I mean, gushing about bass tone, technique, and overall recording can only go so far.
Until now, that is, lol.
I don’t have a crystal ball, so I’m not exactly sure how this is going to affect things on Clean and Sober Stoner. It’s going to take me a while to work things out. I still have a couple of reviews in the pipeline, and of course the YouTube channel is still going strong. In case you missed it, I got to spend an hour with Mike Scheidt…
Really, an hour with Mike Scheidt and James Romig
So, I still have plans. In fact, they’re pretty much the same plans. It’s just going to take a little bit longer to get things going. So for those of you in bands wanting me to listen to your stuff, sure I will. It just might be a little bit delayed. Even if I can’t write long for reviews, I still intend to do weekly lists and updates. And of course, my monthly list sent to the Doom Charts and published here as usual.
If you’re reading this: thank you! I’m not the only reviewer who appreciates each and every single time someone chooses to land on one of our sites. I never take it for granted, and I am continuously bewildered and how many of you check this website out.
Huge thanks also to the bands and labels who’ve worked with me over the past couple of years. Without the you and the bands, nothing would be here. And now it’s allowing me to actually write those bass guitar paragraphs for an audience that actually wants to read them.
Until next time, one last thank you. Now I have some videos to edit…
